Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of high-speed rail, the arguments regarding improving existing infrastructure are underdeveloped and lack specific examples. The response covers all parts of the prompt, but the reasoning remains quite general. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation or a concrete example to support your claims, rather than just stating the advantages. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a positive aspect of your task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'To recapitulate' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the second paragraph. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the connection between ideas could be more sophisticated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era', 'infrastructure', and 'economical growth'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'conserve a immense of time' (should be 'save a significant amount of time') and 'in sink with pace' (likely meant 'in sync with the pace'). Some phrasing is repetitive or unnatural. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding word-choice errors that occasionally make the meaning slightly unclear. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('It is take only', 'government do not have to'), article usage ('in the japan'), and tense consistency. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to basic sentence construction, particularly verb forms and the use of articles. Practicing the correct use of complex structures will also help you move toward a higher band score.
