Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding high-speed rail and public transport are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, well-supported examples. For instance, the mention of rural medical emergencies is a relevant point, but it is not clearly linked to the broader debate about infrastructure spending. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth and analytical rigor required for a higher band score. The introduction is also slightly disjointed, making the initial stance harder to follow.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'In the one hand' and 'In the other hand' are incorrect collocations. Additionally, the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression of ideas is hindered by awkward phrasing. While the essay is coherent enough to be understood, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the transitions prevent a higher score. Paragraphing is present but the internal flow within paragraphs needs improvement.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'aknowledgeable' instead of 'acknowledged', 'expend' instead of 'spent', and 'benificial facilities'. The student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, but the lack of control over collocations and spelling (e.g., 'tremendenously', 'appraoched') frequently distracts the reader. While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary is not sufficiently flexible or precise to convey complex ideas effectively. To improve, the student should focus on learning word families and common collocations used in academic writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('it can leads problems'), incorrect verb forms ('people supports to build'), and awkward sentence construction ('people from the world according to individuals perspectives'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with misplaced commas and spaces. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading to eliminate these persistent errors.
