Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding fast trains mentions 'tourism' and 'investment' but lacks specific explanation of how these are achieved. Similarly, the point about existing infrastructure is valid but remains superficial. The essay meets the requirements of the prompt, but the supporting arguments are not fully extended, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the writer's stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Due to, modern rapid technologies'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. While the overall structure is coherent, the use of cohesive devices is not always flexible or natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'In numerous notions' (likely meaning 'nations') and 'acers of land' (spelling error for 'acres'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'money', 'time', and 'developments'. To improve, the student should focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring correct word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it is require to spend', 'money should be spend', and 'most of train developments redeveloped'. Subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency are problematic throughout the text. While the writer attempts complex structures, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score. More attention to proofreading and mastering fundamental sentence construction is necessary.
