Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both viewpoints and provides an opinion, though the conclusion is incomplete, which affects the overall development of the position. The ideas are relevant, such as the environmental benefits of trains and the economic impact of rural transport, but they are somewhat under-developed. For example, the claim that 'more than half diseases will be extinct' is an over-generalization that lacks logical support. To improve, ensure that each point is fully explained with clear reasoning and that the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments and restates the opinion clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Proponents of the first viewpoint contain that' (should be 'contend') and 'To commence with'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The conclusion is cut off abruptly, which disrupts the logical progression of the argument. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring a complete, coherent conclusion would significantly enhance the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'spent significantly amount of money' (should be 'a significant amount') and 'transport method' (should be 'modes of transport'). The phrase 'environment will be more breathtaking' is an inappropriate collocation in this context. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision and the presence of basic errors hinder the expression of more complex ideas. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on correct word forms is essential.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('spent' instead of 'spend'), missing articles, and faulty sentence structures, such as 'if government spend... so the working people... will be more convenient'. There is a limited range of complex structures, and those attempted often contain errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage, and the accurate construction of conditional sentences.
