Student answer (Band 5.0)

In many countries, there are some indivisuals who aguree that it is best to spend money on build new railway lines, whereas others thinks that is will be best to spend those money on improving or reconstruct public transports. In my prespective i think it will be more benificial for country to improve public transport .

Railways holds an important role in our daily trasportation. Genaral public use it in daily basis to move between cities. There are many advantage of construct new railway . It will reduse the waiting period in stations for train. For instance if there are more railline than more train will pass the station and public dont have to wait for another train for too long . Although there are some dis advantages to, for construct ne railline we have to cut tress to make those line and these will effect the environment directly.

However, improving existing public transport not only benefit our environment but also individuals daily life significantly

Most of the genaral people use public transport because it cost less than booking a private transport. thereofore reconstruct these transport will eventually saves our income that spend on transportation. another advantage is if we improve these transportation facilities than people will be less interests in buying a car or private transport so the carbon emission caused by private transport will decreased significantly and that will directly improve our environment.

In my opinion, contruct railways has many advantages but also hove some drawbacks which cant be ignored . on the other hand improving public transport helps improving indivisuals life significantly. so goverment should focus on spending money on improving transoprt rather than construct new railways.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—constructing new high-speed rail lines and improving existing public transport—and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on the environmental impact of cutting trees for new rail lines and the financial benefits of upgrading existing transport is mentioned briefly without being fully extended or supported with deeper reasoning or precise examples. The position is stated, but the support for each viewpoint stays at a general level rather than exploring the broader economic or social implications in depth, placing this aspect of the writing at this specific level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic logical organisation, and the essay is divided into paragraphs that attempt to separate the different stages of the argument. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text, and transitions between paragraphs feel abrupt. Cohesive devices are used rather inadequately or repetitively, with frequent reliance on basic linkers such as "Although", "However", and "In my opinion". Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks smooth flow, leading to a mechanical feel that prevents the ideas from connecting logically and clearly throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic. There are noticeable lexical errors and issues with word formation, spelling, and word choice throughout the text, such as "indivisuals", "aguree", "prespective", "benificial", "trasportation", "Genaral", "reduse", "railline", "contruct", and "goverment". These errors can occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. While the writer attempts some less common terms like "carbon emission" and "significantly", the high frequency of basic spelling mistakes and imprecise word choices restricts the range and precision of the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., "Railways holds", "trains will pass... and public dont have", "hove some drawbacks"), article usage (e.g., "on build new railway", "for country"), pluralisation (e.g., "dis advantages", "tress"), and prepositional patterns. These frequent errors occur across many sentences and can occasionally cause difficulty or strain for the reader, fitting the expected profile of frequent grammatical inaccuracies.
