Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially, discussing both the construction of fast railway lines and the improvement of existing public transport while providing a personal opinion. However, the ideas are limited and under-developed, lacking sufficient supporting details or specific examples. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 227 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand on the arguments with more thorough explanations and examples, while ensuring the minimum word count is achieved.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text displays some organization with discernible paragraphs addressing different sides of the argument and an introductory and concluding framework. However, there is no clear overall progression throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are used, but they tend to be repetitive or somewhat mechanical, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as abrupt transitions between sentences and paragraphs like 'On the hand' and 'its help local peole'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal logical flow requires strengthening. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive ties more naturally and ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one with clear signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as spelling mistakes ('belive', 'devloping', 'extendding', 'wiedly spreaded', 'scine', 'spreed', 'tranportaion', 'dicrease', 'completly', 'imporve') and word choice inaccuracies ('region of land', 'huge stack of money'). These errors and restricted word choices cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a basic vocabulary range. To achieve a higher band, the student must broaden their vocabulary range, use less common lexical items accurately, and correct frequent spelling and word-formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures employed show a limited range, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some complex sentence forms, but these are often faulty, featuring missing articles, incorrect verb forms, and subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'Some part of society still belives that imporving existed transoprt facilities', 'Government is also working on railways scine they invented', and 'so goverment have to look both sector its and important part'. Punctuation is also erratic in places. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of sentence structures with improved control and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
