Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You present a clear preference for fast trains in the opening and conclusion, and you mention both proposed uses of public money. However, the discussion only partially fulfils the task because the two views are not compared or explained in enough detail. The China example is intended to support investment in fast trains, but the claim about government earnings is unclear and not connected to benefits for passengers. The Sweden example mentions improving older transport and helping older people, but does not explain what improvements are made or why this is a strong alternative. Develop each side with specific reasons and relevant examples, then explain more fully why your preferred option is better. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a statement of your preference, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “To sum up” helps readers identify the stages of the answer. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and the links between claims are often mechanical or unclear. For example, “As train is a significant role for any government” does not clearly connect the example to the argument, while “Thus” introduces a conclusion that has not been adequately established. The final preference paragraph also repeats earlier points rather than advancing the reasoning. Use topic sentences that state each argument, then connect explanations and examples explicitly, with clearer referencing and less repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “railway,” “fast trains,” “public transport,” and “government,” so the main topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “really crucial,” “significant,” and “good part.” Inaccurate word choice and collocation sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow, as in “government earn a 5 million dollar in trains business” and “provide a good facility.” There are also spelling errors such as “constract,” “improvent,” and “transpot,” which reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of transport-related expressions and check spelling and word forms. For example, describe passenger benefits, service improvements, and the costs or economic effects of each option rather than relying on general praise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a few longer sentences and use basic linking structures, but most sentence patterns are simple, and attempts to combine ideas are often faulty. Errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur throughout. For example, “It is often argue by some people believe” combines incompatible structures, while “government should be spent” uses an incorrect passive form. In “Chinese government provide a fast trains,” the subject–verb agreement and article/plural forms are inaccurate. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, with several sentences running together. These errors can make the reader work to understand your meaning. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex forms using “because,” “although,” and “which,” checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
