Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You introduce both sides of the debate and state a position: “the government should make those project[s]” while also improving existing transport. The examples about overcrowded buses and students travelling to cities are relevant, so the response is not off-topic. However, the discussion is only partial: the case for high-speed rail is left unfinished, and neither view is explained in enough detail to show its wider benefits or drawbacks. The conclusion and a clear comparison are also missing. The response is below the required 250 words, which limits how fully you can develop the arguments. To strengthen this, complete both sides, explain why each investment matters, and support your opinion with a developed example and a concluding statement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the two positions, and later paragraphs begin to discuss existing transport and new railway construction. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “For instance” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the final paragraph stops mid-sentence at “different univer…”, and the response has no conclusion. Some connections are unclear, particularly the shift from overcrowding to people missing buses and choosing private vehicles. Use one paragraph for each view, develop each point in a clear sequence, and add a final paragraph that restates your position. Check that each sentence connects logically to the one before it.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “public transport,” “railway track,” “cities,” and “education,” which helps communicate the topic. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “govenmant,” “roots of the cities,” “on a contract,” and “mess there bus.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “make those projects” and “very expense.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than relying on repeated general words such as “make” and “people.” Learning topic-specific phrases for transport investment, congestion, accessibility, and commuting would help you express the arguments more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “For instance” that explains a cause and its consequences. The opening also uses a contrast structure to introduce the opposing views. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences: “people who use public transport on a daily basis should want to improve…” has an unclear grammatical relationship, and “that are not able to travel safely” does not agree with its intended subject. There are also errors in articles, plurals, and verb forms, as in “those student who come” and “government… spend.” The unfinished final sentence further affects accuracy. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas with carefully controlled clauses.
