Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued from some people in various countries that government should focus on spending huge money to build new railway tracts that are suitable for fast trains travel from one city to another, while other think that funds needed to be spend on improving the condition of public transport. I agreed with the group of second option because it will address some root problems of a society.

On the one side, investing on constructing new railway lines will result in reduction of traveling time because if more tracks are suitable for fast trains then numerous fast train will travel which cause in huge time saving of travel. Also in this way, country's infrastructure will also upgrade which not only will reflect its positive image on the other part of the country but also decease the tragedies that are often be recorded due to the poor railway system.

On the other hand, currently public transport facing issues like air and noise population, high fuel consumption, poor vehicles maintenance and crowded places of public transport. By spending money on existing public transport will help to sort all of these crucial problem that are needed to sort out as soon as possible. The result could be in a form of smooth and comfortable ride, restriction on noisy and polluted vehicles and the large benefit would be public will not have to wait in lines to use it. In addition, individuals in a region would like to prefer public transport over their own private transport.

In my opinion, funding should be spend on public transport more, instead of investing on constructing new railway lines because improved public transport addressed all the root problems and give their permanent solution, which will create a maintained and clean environment that are essential for living health life in anywhere. Not only this, railway track also needed to be improve but the first preference should be given to public transport.

In conclusion, both steps are essential and useful for any region or country and fixing various problems but benefits of public transport outweigh the benefits of railway tracks. But the balance between them is needed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a consistent preference for improving public transport, especially in the introduction and conclusion. The public-transport paragraph gives relevant reasons, including pollution, maintenance, crowding and waiting times, while the railway paragraph explains possible time savings and infrastructure benefits. This covers the task well, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that new tracks would reduce railway tragedies needs a clearer link or supporting example. Your own position is clear, though the final suggestion that both steps are needed could be reconciled more explicitly with prioritising public transport. More specific examples and fuller development of the less-developed railway argument would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one side,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the reader can identify your position. However, some linking is mechanical, and connections within sentences are occasionally unclear. For instance, the long sentence beginning “The result could be in a form of…” combines several outcomes without showing how they relate, while “But the balance between them is needed” introduces a point that is not developed. Use more precise referencing and vary transitions, while ensuring each paragraph develops one main idea in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “infrastructure,” “fuel consumption,” “maintenance,” and “crowded,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also some less common expressions, such as “root problems” and “outweigh,” showing an effort to express evaluation. However, inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “railway tracts” for railway tracks, “air and noise population” for air and noise pollution, and “decease the tragedies” where “reduce accidents” is intended. Some phrases are also awkward, such as “huge time saving of travel.” Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking that each chosen word expresses the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses (“because if more tracks are suitable…”) and a concluding “Not only this” construction. This gives the response some structural variety, but control is inconsistent: errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction, and they sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “I agreed” should be “I agree,” “funds needed to be spend” has an incorrect verb form, and “public transport facing issues” is missing an auxiliary. In “numerous fast train will travel,” the noun and verb forms do not agree. Aim to make core sentence patterns accurate before adding complexity, and check each sentence for a subject, a correctly formed verb, and consistent agreement.
