Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for improving existing public transport in the conclusion. The points about railway construction creating projects and jobs, and transport savings being available for health and education, are relevant. However, the two views are not developed equally: the case for fast rail is largely limited to employment and national progress, without explaining its transport benefits, while the second view shifts into education and healthcare rather than showing how better public transport itself helps citizens. Your conclusion gives a position, but the reasoning behind it is only briefly summarised. Explain the practical effects of each investment and support them with a specific example to make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. This gives the reader an overall route through the discussion, and phrases such as “The second compelling…” signal a change of viewpoint. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. In the second body paragraph, the link from improving transport to spending savings on education and healthcare is asserted rather than clearly explained. Some transitions, including “As a result,” are repeated, and the conclusion introduces “jobs opportunity” again without clearly connecting it to the stated preference. Use clearer topic sentences and make each supporting point follow logically from the previous one; vary linking expressions and use pronouns or references precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of formal and less common vocabulary, including “allocate,” “ameliorating,” “pre-existing,” and “definitive conclusion.” However, many choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning hard to understand. For example, “compelling sanity” appears to mean a compelling argument, and “government show spend” does not express the intended idea. Spelling errors such as “construstion,” “developent,” and “eduacation” are also noticeable. Some phrases, including “huge amount of money” and “beneficial for the progress,” are repetitive or imprecise. Prioritise accurate, natural collocations over unusually formal words, and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “citizens which does not effort quality of eduaction” and a conditional idea about money being spent elsewhere. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make sentences difficult to interpret. For example, the opening sentence has no clear grammatical structure, while “government should should expend” repeats the modal and “government show spend” has an incorrect verb form. Agreement and clause construction also need attention: “Many poor citizens … will have chance” lacks a clear, correctly formed clause, and the final sentence combines “not only” and “as well as” incorrectly. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation.
