Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, there was an debate wether goverment shoudl invest heavily in building new railway lines among the cities or improve the public transport the already exist. Although both aproaches the society. But i belive that improving existing trasport should be main priority of officals.

On the on hand, constructing high speed railways lines can bring several benefits. Firstly, these train allow people to travel between cities much faster, saving time for worker and businessman. For example, people can travel to another city for meeting and reture at the same day. Secondly. high speed trains can reduce the number of private cars and domestic flights indivudals use everyday. As a result, traffic congestion and air pollution automatically decrease without the need of any initiative. Therefore, investing on modern railway network can support economic growth and make long travel distance more convenient.

On the other hand, improving existing trasport network can much benefit to people. In many cities, buses and trains are mostly overcrowded and poorly maintained. Spending money on inreasing the number of buses, reparing railway tracks and imrpoving stations can make everyday jouney much easies for passenger. Moreover, these improvement are more afforadable than constructing new railway tracks. For example, better bus service and train condition can help pupils and employess to reach school and workplace on their without any stress. In my opinion, government should address everyday transport before constructing new railway network

In conclusion, although, constructing new railway tracks help people to reach at their destination faster. But i belive that govenment should main existing transport because it can repair affordably and leftover money can be spend on constructing hospitals and schools.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for improving existing transport, especially in the opening and the paragraph beginning “On the other hand.” Relevant support includes faster intercity journeys, reduced car use, overcrowding, and better access to schools and workplaces. This meets the task well, and your examples make the main points understandable. However, the two views are not developed equally: the benefits of high-speed rail are explained more fully than the conditions in which new lines might be preferable, while the final claim about using leftover funds for hospitals and schools is introduced without support. To strengthen the response further, explain the trade-offs and develop each example with a clearer link to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion, and the central position is generally easy to identify. This is a coherent arrangement, though some linking is mechanical or awkward. For instance, “Although both aproaches the society. But…” creates a broken connection, and the conclusion’s “although… But…” repeats the contrast rather than forming a smooth sentence. Some references are also unclear, as in “these improvement” and “it can repair affordably.” Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each claim to its explanation with clearer referencing and complete sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant transport vocabulary, including “high speed railways,” “traffic congestion,” “air pollution,” “overcrowded,” and “railway tracks,” so the topic is clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “economic growth” and “public transport network.” However, the range and control are limited by frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word forms, including “wether,” “goverment,” “imrpoving,” and “afforadable.” Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “investing on modern railway network,” “reach at their destination,” and “train condition.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations as complete phrases, rather than translating word by word.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason-and-result structure in “As a result, traffic congestion and air pollution… decrease” and a relative clause in “the public transport the already exist.” This shows an effort to vary sentence construction. However, many sentences contain errors in articles, agreement, verb forms, or sentence boundaries, which can make meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “these train allow,” “these improvement are,” and “Although both aproaches the society. But…” The final sentence also has an unclear grammatical structure: “government should main existing transport because it can repair affordably.” Practise building accurate basic clauses first, then check subject–verb agreement, articles, and how dependent clauses connect to main clauses.
