Student answer (Band 6.0)
In various countries, numerous people say that allocating a lot of money in building new railway lines for trains between cities is important, whilst other argue that spending money for the betterment of already present transport system is more beneficial. In this assay i will discuss both cases and give my own perspective.
Building new railway lines fot high speed trains can minimizes the chance of time wastage during travelling and can improves the trading system between two cities. Because making new lines can reduce the burden of traffic in big cities and assists in smooth transportation. For example, Pakistani government has allocated 30% of its budget in making new railway lines for the transporation of coal from Lahore to Karachi. This planning has made possible to produce more electricity by trade coal on time between these two cities. However, this can burdenizes the government and requires more time to build new roads.
On the other hand, reconstruction or improvement of existing public transport system is a much better option as it requires low budget and relatively less time in renovation. Moreover, this also paves a way for government to spend money on other public sectors such as education and hospitals. For instance, Pakistani government has improved existing electric buses and dedicated them for students travelling only in numerous Pakistani universities.
In conclusion, although building new railway lines can save time and improve trading system but spending money on already available public transport can reduce the expenditures of government and enable them to spend this money on other public facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both sides of the question and give a clear preference for improving existing transport, especially in the conclusion, where you say it can reduce government expenditure and free funds for other services. The discussion of new railways includes possible time savings and trade benefits, while the second view is supported with the example of electric buses for students. However, some points are not fully explained: the coal example does not clearly show how passenger high-speed rail would improve trade, and the claim that new lines reduce traffic needs a clearer link. Develop each example and explain the benefits and drawbacks more precisely so that both views are supported to a similar depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the main position is identifiable. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation, with some evidence of flexible linking. However, several connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Because making new lines…” is a sentence fragment, and “However, this can burdenizes the government” does not clearly specify what “this” refers to. Use complete sentences and clearer referencing, and connect each example directly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “high speed trains,” “traffic,” “renovation,” and “public sectors,” and the intended meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “paves a way” and “allocated.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the message less natural: “assay” for “essay,” “transporation,” “burdenizes,” and “trade coal” are examples. Some phrases, including “already present transport system,” are also awkward. Build accuracy by learning common transport collocations and checking spelling and word forms; this will make your vocabulary more precise without needing unnecessarily complex expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause beginning “although” and a relative clause in “buses … for students travelling only in numerous Pakistani universities.” The paragraphing also helps make the argument readable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “other argue” should be “others argue,” while “can minimizes” and “can improves” should use the base verb after “can.” “Because making new lines…” is a fragment, and “although … but” uses two competing conjunctions. Review modal verb patterns and practise combining dependent clauses into complete sentences; these changes would improve control while preserving your range.
