Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is considerable debate over whether a large amount should be spent on developing new railways to reduce the travel time or whether the money should be invested on enhancing existing public transport system. The essay will examine both prespectives and explain why I believe that governments should invest more money in existing public transport.
Improvements in current public transport can make travelling more convenient for people who use public transport on daily basis. This is because many people may prefer to travel on buses and autos. For instance, people on lower incomes often travel in buses and can facing several difficulties including exhaustion, an inclusion of air conditioner in buses can provide people a comfortable environment. As a result, investing on existing buses can help poor people to travel with less difficulties.
Spending money on the construction of new railways can be suitable for wealthy people because of high prices. This is because people may reach their destination within few hours of travel. For instance, people on higher incomes can benefit from fast trains because they can easily afford the higher costs. Consequently, spending more money on new developments may lead to less profitable amount.
In conclusion, while some people argue that the spending money on new constructions can improves feasibility for wealthy people, others believe that invsesting more amount on existing transpot system can increase convenience for lower income families. In my opinion, governments should spend large amount on available public transport, as this can provide better environment to poor families, and also foster wealthy people to save their money.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both options and state a consistent preference for improving existing transport, so the response addresses the main parts of the prompt. The point that better buses could help lower-income passengers is relevant, and you contrast this with the speed and cost of new railways for wealthier travellers. However, both arguments are only briefly developed: the bus example focuses on air conditioning rather than broader improvements to public transport, while the railway paragraph does not explain clearly why its development might produce a “less profitable amount.” Your conclusion repeats the comparison but adds little support. To strengthen the response, explain specific benefits and drawbacks of each investment and connect them more directly to your opinion with a clear, relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The reader can follow the contrast, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “As a result,” and “Consequently” help signal examples and outcomes. This gives the response a coherent progression. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Consequently” introduces a claim about profitability that has not been established, and the final sentence combines several points without showing how they relate. The body paragraphs would progress more logically if each began with a clear claim, then explained it, and ended by linking it to the investment choice. Use referencing and transitions to clarify relationships rather than simply mark them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “constructing new railways,” “existing public transport,” “higher incomes,” and “travel time.” These choices make the subject clear, and some more formal phrasing, such as “considerable debate,” suits an essay. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “invested on” and “spending on the construction” are not natural in these contexts, while “less profitable amount” does not express a clear idea. There are also spelling errors, including “prespectives,” “invsesting,” and “transpot.” Aim for precise transport-related terms and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated general phrases with accurate expressions such as “upgrade bus services” or “high-speed rail infrastructure” would make the argument clearer and more flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur and sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “can facing several difficulties,” “within few hours,” and “the spending money on new constructions can improves.” The phrase “an inclusion of air conditioner in buses” also shows difficulty forming a grammatical noun phrase. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and the verb form after modal verbs: use “can face” and “can improve.” Also review articles and countable nouns, as in “within a few hours.” More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences easier to read.
