IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The process illustrates the procedure to produce electricity using geothermal energy.

Overall, the process is linear and consists of five main stages, beginning with producing a hot water from a cold water using a geothermal zone and ending with electricity produced by a turbine. The electricity is produced using a steam through a turbine and a generator.

Initially, the cold water is pumped down to the geothermal zone (hit rocks) using the injection well. The geothermal zone converts the cold water into the hot water, once the hot water is produced it is pumped up to the condenser through the production well.

Thereafter, the condenser produces steam from the produced hot water. After that in the fifth stage the steam is utilized by the turbine and it rotates on a high speed. The generator is linked with the turbine, which produces electricity. Lastly, the generated electricity is stored in a electricity tower, which provides the electricity to different places such as industrial zones, residential areas, and so on.
