IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Geothermal Power plant is an another example of science that shows how we can use natural resources to work in favor of mankind. In this given diagram point number 1 shows that cold water pumped down 4.5km under soil to naturally hot area of earth. Point number 2 shows the injection well that is unground and in contact with hot rocks, which is considered a Geothermal Zone. This geothermal zone has enough temperature to increase water temperature that is essential feature of this process. When cold water moves from point 2 to point 3, temperature of water increased and that hot water pumped to point 4 where condenser has enough steam power to move a turbine which is steam powered. That turbine is linked with a generator as shows in diagram, which is main component to generate electricity. So from this diagram we can understand , how a geothermal power plant generate electricity uses natural power of steam produced naturally via hot rocks without polluting atmosphere unlike thermal power plants (Coal Powered).
