IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided diagram illustrates production of electricity using geothermal energy. The diagram is divided into various underground and on land stages.

Overall it is crystal clear that the process consists of several stages which begin by pumping cold water underground to ultimately ending at production of electricity.

At a fleeting glance it is evident that firstly cold water from the surface is pumped down 4.5 kilometers to the injection well and passes through the geothermal zone which consists of hot rocks before reaching the production well and pumping the hot water to the surface level for the forthcoming stage.

Another stage involves condensing of the pumped hot water and afterwards the steam powers the turbine through a small opening which results in driving of the turbine which in next stage helps the generator to produce electricity by getting powered by the turbine.

Looking at the diagram it can be concluded that the electricity produced by the geothermal process reaches its destination through the electric towers which receive electricity from the generator in the last stage.
