Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 4.0)

The diagram tell me how geothermal energy is uses to produce electricity. This diagram show me the all process.

Firstly, the cold water pumped down cold water is 4.5km and the injection well sent the Geothermal zone hot rocks to the production well and at this point the hot water pumped up to the condenser the condenser is the 4th step of how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity. At this point the condenser steam the energy and sent to turbine and turbine sent the energy to generator and the generator powered by turbine and produce electricity and after that the electricity sent to the electric pole and the people use this electricity for a lot of purpose and the electricity is very important for now a days and there are 5 total step to produce electricity from the geothermal energy and the last step of generator who produce the electricity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to describe the geothermal process but fails to provide a clear, objective summary. The language is overly informal, using first-person references like 'The diagram tell me' instead of an academic overview. While the main stages are mentioned, the description is confusing and lacks a logical flow, making it difficult to follow the technical process. Key features, such as the distinction between the injection and production wells, are not clearly explained, and the inclusion of irrelevant commentary about electricity being 'important for now a days' detracts from the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text lacks logical organization. While there is a brief attempt at sequencing with 'Firstly', the rest of the response is a single, long, run-on paragraph that makes it difficult to distinguish between the different stages of the process. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; instead, the writer relies on repetitive use of 'and' to connect clauses. The progression of information is mechanical and confusing, failing to guide the reader through the diagram effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The writer uses basic terms like 'sent', 'used', and 'produce' repeatedly, which restricts the ability to describe the technical process accurately. There are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'condenser steam the energy' and 'electric pole', which do not accurately reflect the technical components shown in a geothermal diagram. The range is insufficient to convey the information with any degree of precision or academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('The diagram tell me', 'This diagram show me'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on, lacking proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to parse. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures; the writing relies on simple, poorly constructed clauses. These errors are pervasive and significantly affect the clarity of the information provided.
