The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram illustartes how electricity is generated from geothermal energy.

Overall, this procedure involves 5 steps to produce the power which is used in our day to day life.It is done in 2 phrases one is underground other is on the ground.

First and foremost, the cold water is send into the tunnel which is s called as The Injection well.The cold water passes along the tunnel for 4.5 kms long and enter into Geothermal zone where cold water is converted into hot water. This hot water is pumped up through the production well which is also 4.5 kms long and finally reach to condenser. This whole process take place in underground.

This is 2nd phases where rest all procedure is on ground.At 4th step hot water is compressed into vaccum which passes through small tube like structure that connect condenser and turbine.The turbine which is powered by steam goes into generator where electricity is produced .From there power is passed into electrical towers from where current is supplied to houses,industries etc.
