The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given image depicts the information about production of electricity from geothermal power plant.

Overall, the process starts with the usage of cold water into the geothermal plant and culminated at release of electricity through generator. This process of producing electricity requires five steps in total, and elimination of one step can halt the overall procedure.

Firstly, the cold water pumped down through 4.5 km long tunnel, which then enters further into the injection well. This injection well is connected with geothermal section, consisting hot rocks and this works as a heating chamber to heat the water.

Furthermore, the third step involves the production well and in this well, hot water pumped up, to reach at condenser. Turbines start moving with the help of steam produce from hot water in the condenser, and this movement in turbines helps in the production of electricity from generator. Electricity produced from generator supplied to main supplier electric poles for the distribution.
