IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given diagram depicts a working model of a geothermal power plant used as an energy supplier for production of electricity.
Overall, it is immediately notably that the generation of electricity through geothermal energy consists five major operations. The procedure involves usage water sources at the initial stage which eventually is converted to electrical power.
Directing attention towards the first step, cold water is pumped downwards using an underground injection well that travels approximately 4.5kms deep into the ground. The opening of the injection well leads the water through the geothermal zone consisting heated rocks due to the higher temperature of earths core. Thereafter, the hot water in pumped back to the surface into a condenser, with the usage of a production well.
Furthermore, the condenser has a lower temperature than that of the water and the steams produced by the water is made to cool down and condense which are then transferred to the last stage of the procedure. The final procedure includes a turbine that spins the stem into high speed and pushes it towards the generator which cause electricity generation.
