IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The pictorial representation reveals the various steps that are involved to generate electric power by using geothermal energy.

In an overview, it is apparently seen that the process of electricity production is a step-by-step complex process, starting from dumping down of cold water and ending with manufacturing of power. Whole process consist total 5 major stages.

Initially, cold water is dumped down below the earth surface at distance of 4.5 km. After that, water is injected in geothermal zone through injection well, where water passed through hot rocks. Afterwards, hot water goes in production well for next process.

Probing further, once hot water goes in production well then hot water is pumped up in condenser. Later, steam is passed through an opening at top corner of condenser for final stage. Eventually, turbine is rotated by steam to rotate axle of generator which produced electric power to supply further to electrical towers.
