IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The flow chart illustrates the steps involved in generating electricity power from geothermal energy.
Overall, it is clear that the whole process includes five stages, where cold water is being used as an input and the final step concludes with the generation of power supply.
First of all, stored cold water pumped down from the tank to the injection well through 4.5 km deep tunnel with considerable force. This injection well is filled with hot rocks transforms cold water into hot while passing it through geothermal zone. At the next stage, the production well moves the transformed water to next tunnel which, pumped it out in a condenser, which stores steam in a room, produced from the pressure of hot water.
In final phase, turbines take steam and pushes it to the generator which turns steam into electricity. The produced electricity therefore transferred to electric towers which is further connected to used in households.
