Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student identifies the main stages of the geothermal process, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the process as a whole. The explanation of the steps is basic and lacks the necessary detail or synthesis expected at this level. Because the response is under-length and lacks a clear, well-developed overview, it does not fully address the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of the process. While there is an attempt to use sequencing words like 'Firstly' and 'After', the lack of clear paragraphing and the repetitive structure of the sentences hinder the flow. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical way, and the transition between ideas is often abrupt. To improve, the student should group related steps into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words to connect the stages of the process more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms such as 'water', 'point', and 'produce'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'illiustrate' and 'summerzi', and incorrect word choices like 'powered turbine wings' instead of 'turbine blades'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the technical process with precision. To reach a higher band, the student needs to incorporate more topic-specific terminology related to energy production and improve the accuracy of word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('Their are show', 'hot rock are present'), article usage, and sentence structure. The writing relies almost exclusively on simple sentences, with very few attempts at complex structures. Errors such as 'steam are make' and 'waterpump pumped' demonstrate a lack of control over tense and passive voice, which are essential for describing a technical process. A greater focus on sentence variety and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is required.
