The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The digram illustrate the production of electricity through geothermal energy.

Overall, the electicity through geothermal power plant is produced in 5 significant stages; pumping cold water downward and hot water upward, steaming the water and passing it through a generator.

Firstly, the cold water is stored and pumped 4.5 kiliometers under the ground, which is then passed through the first well called injection well. The water goes through a zone known as geothermal zone. Which is basically hot rocks, which heats up the cold water truning it into hot water and then it is passed through the second well known as the production well. It pumps the water upward into a condenser.

In the next stage the steam in the condenser due to boiling water is passed through a turbine, which is powered by the steam itself. The turbine is further connected to a generator, which produces electricity by the power of turbine. The generated electricity is then transfered into electrical transmission tower.
