The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided process diagram illustrates the five steps through which electricity is generated by consuming geothermal energy. Overall, initially cold water is pumped down up to 4.5 kilometers under the earth and finally electricity is generated through genrator and turbine.

To commence, in initial phase the cold water is pumped down 4 kilometers to the injection well, in second stage the frosty water is enters through the geothermal zone where hot rocks convert the cold water into hot water and then that hot water enters to production well. In the third stage the hot water is pumped out from the production well and subjected to condenser.

Going into the depth, in the condenser the hot water is condenser into water vapours, and the turbine is run through the force exerted by water steam. in the last phase, the generator starts generating electicity and the send to electric grade station which is 11000 volt which in later converted to 220 volt after passing through electric transfermer and read to consume for domestic industries and other uses.
