The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The schematic describes the energy production through geothermal power plant. The process digram represents the overall procedure and science behind this process at multiple steps and levels.
To begin with initial step, the cold water is pumped down to the injection well that is situated below at 4.5 km elevation. The zone next to injection well is termed as geothermal zone and commonly known as hot rocks. The water from these hot rocks section is then transferred to reaction area which is reffered as the production well.
In the next step, hot water pumps are used to transfer this media in the condenser. Condenser is a machine that connects the other end of turbine. At the second last step, the high pressure and temperature steam is injected into the turbine. The turbine runs on this highly saturated steam and produces the electricty. The power is then transmitted to grids.
In conclusion, geothermal energy production at multi levels is briefly eloborated in this figure.
