Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the required 150-word minimum, falling short at 106 words. While the writing attempts to describe how geothermal energy produces electricity by mentioning cold water, the geothermal zone, the condenser, the turbine, and the generator, the information is presented in a very basic and limited way. Key details from the diagram, such as the 4.5 km depth of the injection well and the distinction between the injection and production wells, are omitted or poorly reported. The overall summary lacks a clear, structured overview of the multi-stage process.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text displays some basic organization, beginning with an introductory statement and tracing the steps of the process sequentially. However, there is no clear paragraphing, as the entire response is written as a single, dense block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and mechanical, relying heavily on simple connectors like 'then', 'after this process', and 'at the end'. Referencing and logical progression are weak, leading to a confusing flow of ideas where sentences run into one another without clear logical transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, demonstrating a basic range sufficient only for simple communication. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms, such as 'powerpalnt' instead of 'power plant' and 'apparatus' used awkwardly. The student attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to the diagram, such as 'condenser', 'turbine', and 'generator', but general imprecision and basic phrasing constrain the effectiveness of the writing and can cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions or weak punctuation. There is a complete lack of complex sentence structures, and punctuation is largely absent, with missing capitalization and periods throughout the text. Frequent errors in verb forms, such as 'is pump' instead of 'is pumped', and missing articles, such as 'reaches to turbine machine', occur across the response and frequently strain meaning and readability.
