Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5
The response identifies the general subject as electricity generation from a geothermal power plant and includes one accurate detail: water is sent 4.5 km underground through the injection route. However, it does not provide a usable summary of the process. The account stops mid-sentence at “the water goes to the,” so the geothermal heating, hot water returning through the production well, steam, turbine and generator are not explained. There is also no overview of the main stages. The task requires at least 150 words, and this response is substantially below that minimum, leaving the key features largely unreported. To improve, describe the full sequence and include a concise overview of how underground heat ultimately produces electricity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to introduce the diagram and then begin describing its first stage, so the reader can see an intended progression from the general process to a detail. However, the response ends abruptly in the middle of a sentence, and there is no development or conclusion to carry the reader through the stages. The two opening sentences also repeat the same idea (“This map show…”), rather than establishing an overview and moving on. Because so little information is connected, progression and paragraph organisation remain very limited. A clearer structure would use an introduction, an overview of the transformation from cold water to electricity, and a sequenced account of the underground and surface stages, linked with terms such as “next” and “finally.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant process terms, including “electricity,” “injection tube,” and “4,5 km,” which helps identify the topic and one part of the diagram. However, the vocabulary is limited and some choices are inaccurate or imprecise: “map” does not describe a process diagram, “cool” is not the intended noun, and “dam” is not shown in the visual. “Geo thermal” is also incorrectly separated. These choices make parts of the description unclear and do not provide the range needed to report the remaining stages. Use precise labels such as “diagram,” “cold water,” “injection well,” “geothermal zone,” “production well,” “steam,” “turbine,” and “generator.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts simple statements and a longer clause describing water being sent underground, but grammatical control is inconsistent. In “This map show,” the singular subject requires “shows”; “the electricity an be generate” has errors in the modal and verb form; and “The cool can be store” also needs a correctly formed passive construction. The final sentence is incomplete, ending with “goes to the,” which prevents the relationship between stages from being expressed. The writing therefore shows only a narrow range of structures and does not yet communicate the process reliably. Practise accurate present-simple descriptions and passive forms, for example, “Cold water is pumped down the injection well,” then connect complete clauses to explain what happens next.
