The diagram below shows how geothermal energy is used to produce electricity.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
The diagram show how geothermal energy is used to create electricity . After many steps than create a electricity. Electricity is the important part in our life. Without the electricity life is difficult. Some people know how to produce a electricity?. In the Pakistan, electricity is delivered by a GEPCO department.
The start step, the pump highest down the cool water. The pump send the cold water in hot rocks that called Geothermal zone. After pass the hot rocks the pump send the water in condenser . The condenser made the water in vapor .
The Condenser send it Turbine by using a small way that called a steam. The turbine used the power of steam and then it generator the generator use power of Turbine and Generator produce a electricity .
In our Pakistan ,the gepco department that stand for a Government Electric Power Company officers. It department delivered all Pakistan electricity. It delivered electricity by using a cables and towers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the general topic and includes several relevant stages: cold water is pumped down, passes through hot rocks, returns to the surface, becomes steam, and powers a turbine and generator. However, the process is only minimally described and some key details are missing or unclear. The injection and production wells are not distinguished, the 4.5 km depth is omitted, and the overview does not clearly summarise the complete sequence. The opening and closing comments about electricity in Pakistan and GEPCO are not shown in the diagram, so they take space away from reporting its features. Focus on the illustrated process and describe each stage accurately, including how the generator produces electricity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation: the response begins with an introduction, then describes parts of the process, and places the Pakistan-related comments at the end. The sequence from pumping water to producing steam and using a turbine is partly traceable. However, progression is weakened by the unrelated opening and closing material, and the stages are not consistently connected. For example, “After pass the hot rocks” does not clearly explain the transition to the production well, while the turbine and generator sentence repeats “generator” and becomes difficult to follow. Use a clear overview followed by a step-by-step account, with simple links such as “next,” “then,” and “finally” used accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant process vocabulary, including “geothermal zone,” “condenser,” “steam,” and “turbine,” which helps identify the main equipment. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, making parts of the process difficult to understand. For instance, “the pump highest down” and “a small way that called a steam” do not express the intended actions or components clearly. “Generator” is also used as a verb in “it generator the generator.” Aim for precise process verbs and standard technical phrases, such as “pump water down,” “convert water into steam,” and “drive a generator.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe a sequence using simple clauses and some linking structures, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors often make the meaning unclear. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “The diagram show,” faulty verb forms in “After pass the hot rocks,” and unclear sentence construction in “then it generator the generator.” Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “produce a electricity?” and the run-on description of the turbine and generator. Use present simple consistently for process descriptions, check subject–verb agreement, and build one clear clause for each stage. More accurate simple sentences would improve clarity before attempting longer structures.
