Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters(such as food, clothes and entertainment ) make them selfish .However Other believes children should be allowed to make decisions because it helps them grow. This essay will we discuss both views .
On the one hand, some people think that children should not make their own choices. If children always get what they want then they will never learn to be responsible and self-control .For example they may choose to eat only fast food, buy expensive clothes, or spend too much time playing games. As a result, they may not learn self-control or understand the needs of other people. Parent should tell them their boundaries, guide them between right and wrong and help them to make better decisions.
On the other hand , some people believe to give freedom to children to make their own choice about their everyday live decisions. This help them to become more responsible, confidence and independent .For example children can choose their clothes, hobbies, or books to read. Even if they make small mistakes, they can learn from them and make better choices in the future. These experiences help them in their future.
In my opinion, children should be allowed to make simple everyday decisions, but parents should guide them when making important ones. This gives children confidence while also helping them learn between what is right and wrong .
In conclusion children who makes their own choices can be selfish but children who makes their decisions under the parent supervision will be more successful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. All parts of the prompt are covered, although the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the argument regarding children becoming selfish is supported by examples like 'fast food' and 'expensive clothes,' but these points could be expanded further to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To improve, ensure that the reasoning behind the arguments is more deeply explored rather than just listing examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the abrupt transition in the introduction. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between sentences could be smoother to enhance the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'boundaries,' 'independent,' and 'supervision.' However, there are some word-choice errors, such as 'everyday live decisions' instead of 'everyday life decisions' and 'learn between what is right and wrong' instead of 'distinguish between.' The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but more precise or sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children who makes' instead of 'children who make') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some spacing issues around parentheses and commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
