Student answer (Band 6.5)
A large number of individuals are purchasing automobiles in recent times. While the negative outcomes of this escalating trend are worsening of air pollution and exponential growth of traffic congestion, employing public transit is the optimal solution to mitigate this problem which can be encouraged by effective education and reinforcing infrastructure.
To commence with, the problems faced due to excessive car purchase are air pollution and
traffic congestion which creates a formidable situation for the public. To expound, since most of the cars use gasoline as a fuel, they cause substantial greenhouse gas emissions which drastically pollute the environment. Furthermore, with an increased influx of cars the roads become congested because the size of the roads are the same. To exemplify, in 2025, total count of vehicles doubled in the past five years which has consequently doubled the level of air pollution in Delhi. Hence the above example vividly illustrates how high levels of vehicle purchase cause problems.
To alleviate the outlined problems, demographics can be motivated to use public transit through effective education and significant improvement in transport infrastructure. To elaborate, not only should the authorities raise awareness by launching educational media campaigns, but also improve transport accessibility with reliable service infrastructure. Thus, the aforementioned steps substantiates how the issue can be solved.
In conclusion, this essay has clearly discussed that air quality deterioration and heavy traffic
flow are the undeniable problems associated with the escalating trend of buying cars. Nevertheless, with considerable public encouragement to use public transport by providing environmental awareness and improving transport accessibility, these problems can be efficiently minimized.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for a discussion on whether children should be allowed to make their own choices regarding everyday matters like food and clothing. However, the essay discusses the rise in automobile ownership and the need for public transport. Because the student failed to address the task prompt entirely, the response cannot be assessed for task achievement in relation to the actual question asked. This is a critical failure in meeting the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is well-structured in terms of paragraphing, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To expound', and 'In conclusion' is logical and helps the flow of the text. While the content is irrelevant to the prompt, the internal organization of the ideas presented is coherent and easy to follow. The progression of arguments regarding traffic and pollution is logical, even though these arguments do not answer the set question.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for an academic essay. The student uses a range of topic-specific vocabulary related to transport and environment, such as 'escalating trend', 'mitigate', 'formidable situation', 'greenhouse gas emissions', and 'deterioration'. There is evidence of a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey ideas clearly. While the topic is incorrect, the lexical control demonstrated is adequate for a higher band, showing an ability to use collocations and academic terminology effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The student demonstrates a good command of grammatical structures. There is a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'While the negative outcomes... are worsening of air pollution..., employing public transit is the optimal solution'. There are occasional minor errors, such as 'the size of the roads are the same' (should be 'is') and 'steps substantiates' (should be 'substantiate'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The control over punctuation and sentence variety is quite strong.
