Student answer (Band 6.5)
According to a few individuals, if children are allowed to take decisions by themselves regarding routine occurrence such as food, clothes and entertainment will result in development of selfishness among individuals in a society, while others argue that it is crucial for youngsters to make their choices which matters to them. I am inclined to believe that minors should not get total freedom to choose everyday matters because at this age they are vulnerable and lack knowledge about the consequences.
On one side, some people believe that children should not be allowed to make their own choices in terms of regular events such as what to eat, choosing their attire and ways of diversions. The minors at a young age do not possess understanding of pursuing a right habit. For instance, some kids demand to eat junk food for lunch or dinner which is not healthy for an individual. In recent time outfits are getting more expensive as compared to before which might not be affordable for a few parents for that reason children need to be taught the importance of making choices according to the situations. Moreover, at a young age it is crucial to focus on study and spend less time on entertainment tools like television and smart phones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. However, the essay is incomplete, as it cuts off abruptly in the conclusion. This prevents the full development of the final paragraph and leaves the argument unfinished. While the ideas presented in the body paragraphs are relevant, the second body paragraph is significantly underdeveloped, offering only a brief mention of confidence and stubbornness without sufficient elaboration or examples. To reach a higher band, ensure all parts of the prompt are fully explored and the essay is brought to a logical, complete conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'On one side', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels abrupt due to the lack of depth in the latter. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow is disrupted by the sudden termination of the text, which prevents the reader from seeing a cohesive summary of the arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary such as 'vulnerable', 'consequences', and 'diversions'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'routine occurrence' instead of 'routine matters' and 'pursuing a right habit'. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding the range of synonyms and improving collocation accuracy would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'if children are allowed to take decisions... will result in', which lacks a proper subject for the main clause, and 'make them to be stuburn some time', which is syntactically incorrect. Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a major issue. While the errors do not consistently impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a need for better control over complex sentence construction and subject-verb agreement.
