Student answer (Band 6.5)

This a debatable issue that whether children should be allowed to choose food, clothes and entertainment of their choice or not. As some people believe that this makes them individuals who only think about their own wishes and they don't bother about others. A small child have not much experience about life, they depends on their parents for their needs and wishes. When parents ask their child about what he wants to eat, I believe they are giving him choice. Now the child think about taste, hunger or any other liking, then he decides. this process gives him a chance to compare different foods, from which he chose best for himself.

In other hand when parents impose their wishes on them , some how child's decision not matters. Child believes that this is a right thing for him. because he believes in his parents love and feeling of security. This habit decreases the ability of a child to compare right and wrong for him.

I know some of my relatives who always pressurize their daughter about cloths, dressing sense , friends etc. Means they always hamper her decisions in their own way. She was very good in dancing and I knew that she wants to open her own dance studio, but because of her childhood experience she didn't come to any decision. When last time I heard about her, she was in depression.

So I believe that it is important for a children to make decisions about matters that affect them for their growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of decision-making for growth, the counter-argument regarding the risk of creating self-centered individuals is not fully explored or supported with sufficient depth. The example provided about your relative is relevant, but the connection back to the prompt's specific concern about 'society' could be more explicit. To improve, ensure that each point is supported by a clear explanation or a more detailed example to demonstrate a more thorough understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, 'In other hand' is a non-standard phrase; 'On the other hand' would be more appropriate. Additionally, some transitions between sentences are abrupt, such as the jump from the discussion of parents to the personal anecdote. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this process', 'this habit') is always clear will help the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'wishes', and 'things'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'hamper her decisions' and 'didn't come to any decision'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to child development and autonomy, such as 'independence', 'decision-making skills', 'autonomy', or 'nurturing'. Focusing on more precise word choices will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'A small child have', 'they depends', 'child's decision not matters') and article usage (e.g., 'a children'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods and unnecessary commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and pluralization, will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
