Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development of ideas is weak and often irrelevant. The examples provided, such as the story of 'Jessy' and 'Akamksha', do not directly support the prompt's focus on children making everyday choices like food or clothing. Instead, they focus on adult career decisions, which fails to address the core of the task. While a position is stated in the introduction, the supporting arguments are repetitive and lack depth, leading to a superficial discussion that does not fully explore the implications of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', but they are often followed by sentences that do not logically connect to the previous point. The conclusion is particularly problematic as it merely repeats the prompt rather than synthesizing the arguments presented. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow feels mechanical rather than natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'decisions are very important' are used multiple times, indicating a lack of lexical variety. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'sacrifice worst situation' and 'qualified the net examination'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. The student relies on basic, everyday language and struggles to incorporate more sophisticated or academic terminology appropriate for an IELTS Task 2 essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'decisions plays an major role'), article usage, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'A few people state that allowing children to make their own choices on daily matters such as food, clothes and entertainment.'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are often faulty or incorrectly punctuated. While simple sentences are generally accurate, the lack of control over more complex grammatical forms limits the score in this criterion.
