Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters like food, clothes and entertainment is like to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. While, other individuals believe that it is crucial for children to make decisions about matters which affect them. In this essay both perspectives will be discussed along with my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.
On the one hand, making their own choices can make children selfish. To begin with, children may become self-centred. To explain, if children are always allowed to choose what they want , they may become accustomed to putting their own preferences first. For example, if a child always decides what the family eats or watches on television they may ignore othe family members preferences. As a result, they may find it difficult to compromise and consider other people's need later in life. In addition, children may make unhealthy or inappropriate choices. To elaborate, young children do not always understand the long-term consequences of their decision. Therefor, parental guidance is necessary to tech them responsible decision making.
On the other hand, children should make their own decision to develop independance. To elaborate, making small everyday decisions teaches children to think for themselves rather then always depending on their parents. For instance, allowing children to choose their own clothes can help them develop personnel preferences und confidence. As a result, they may become more independent and responsible adults. Hence, children learn from both good and bad choices.
In my opinion, children should be allowed to make decision about everyday mutters, but this freedom should be accompanied by parental guidance. This approach can help them become independent without encouraging selfish behaviour.
In conclusion, although giving children complete freedom may encourage selfish behaviour and poor choices allowing them to make appropriate decision can develop their independence and confidence. Therefore, I believe children should have some freedom of choice while parents continue to guide them towards responsible decisions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the argument regarding the development of independence versus the risk of selfishness. However, some points could be developed further with more specific examples to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments. The response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the transition between the two sides of the argument is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. However, there is some minor repetition in the use of linking phrases, and the referencing could be slightly more varied to improve the flow. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing for some precision in discussing the topic. The student uses relevant terms like 'compromise', 'consequences', and 'independent'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'othe' (other), 'Therefor' (Therefore), 'tech' (teach), 'independance' (independence), 'personnel' (personal), 'und' (and), and 'mutters' (matters). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should aim for more sophisticated collocations and ensure accuracy in spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'is like to result' (is likely to result) and 'rather then' (rather than). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are generally accurate, but the frequency of minor errors prevents a higher score. The majority of the content is understandable, and the errors do not cause significant difficulty for the reader, but more consistent control over complex structures is needed.
