Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent times, a handful of people believe that letting the pupils decide on their daily matters will lead to society where every individuals think about their own wishes while, other people believe it is significant for pupils to decide about their own matters. I believe that it is necessary for childrens to make their own decisions as it improves their critical thinking and decision making abilities. Meanwhile, it is equally necessary to respect the decision of your elders.
On the one hand, allowing children to make their own decisions will allow them to make mistakes and learn form those mistakes. Making decisions about daily matters like food, clothes, and entertainment is vital for development of critical thinking in childrens. It also make the children aware of the risks associated with making wrong decisions. For instance, If a children get food poisoning after deciding to eat junk food, they will understand the risks associated with it.
On the other hand, such a practice can also lead to a society where the children think about their own wishes irrespective of what their guardians think. Full freedom on making their own decision can lead children to not respecting the wish of the elders. At such a young age, making wrong decisions can severely affect one's life.
To conclude, I would like to say that children should be allowed to make their own decisions as it improves their critical thinking abilities. However, it's benefits are accompanied by challenges such as diminished respect towards others wish. Ultimately, it is imperative to let childrens make their own decisions while, the parents monitor and educate them on their decisions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of critical thinking and the potential for diminished respect for elders. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the risks of decision-making is supported by a simple example, but it could be expanded further to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the two sides. To improve, ensure that each point is explored with more depth and nuance rather than relying on brief explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and there is some repetition in the phrasing of ideas. The referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the discussion of benefits and the need for parental monitoring in the conclusion could be smoother to enhance the overall progression of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'imperative' and 'diminished', which is positive. However, there are recurring errors in word form and pluralization, such as 'childrens' (which is incorrect as 'children' is already plural) and 'every individuals'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a handful of people believe', 'it also make the children') and pluralization (e.g., 'childrens'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage, particularly before 'while' and 'as'. The errors are noticeable but rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, the student should proofread for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct plural forms of nouns.
