Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the recent era, the thoughts of individuals changed a lot. The old people used to think that permitting children to live according to their own wills leads to the destruction of the society. But know their point of view has changed. I believe that letting children live their lives as per their own choice is a good thing. Firstly, I would like to talk about people who consider that allowing children to live according to their own choice leads to a society where people care only about their benefits and wishes. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 134 words. Because the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, it fails to address all parts of the task. The prompt asks for a discussion of both views and an opinion, but the development of these ideas is severely limited. The introduction is present, but the body paragraphs are not fully formed, and the conclusion is entirely missing. This lack of development and the failure to meet the minimum length requirement significantly impacts the score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows some attempt at logical organization, using transition words like 'Firstly' and 'But'. However, the abrupt ending and the lack of a clear paragraph structure make it difficult to follow a logical progression. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, and the lack of completion prevents the development of a coherent argument. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structure is fragmented due to the unfinished nature of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally simple and repetitive. Phrases like 'live according to their own will' and 'conservative thought' are used, but there is a lack of range and precision. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'In the recent era' instead of 'In recent years'. The limited length of the response restricts the opportunity to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, which is necessary for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'the thoughts of individuals changed a lot' (should be 'have changed'), 'it may leads to' (should be 'it may lead to'), and 'is you allow' (should be 'if you allow'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with some attempts at complex sentences that contain errors. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequent grammatical slips and the incomplete nature of the sentences hinder the overall clarity of the writing.
