Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 169 words. This significant under-length results in an incomplete response that fails to fully address the prompt. While the student attempts to discuss both views, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting examples or a clear, sustained personal opinion. The essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, meaning the conclusion and the final development of ideas are entirely missing. To improve, the student must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed with extended, well-supported arguments and a clear structure that includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt to use transition words like 'While' and 'But', the paragraphing is insufficient and the flow of ideas is disjointed. The text is not organized into a coherent structure; it reads more like a collection of fragmented thoughts rather than a cohesive argument. The abrupt ending further disrupts the coherence of the piece. To improve, the student should focus on using clear topic sentences for each paragraph and employing a wider range of cohesive devices to link ideas more effectively, ensuring the essay has a logical beginning, middle, and end.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic phrasing. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'future carrier' (likely meaning 'career') and 'what type of suit is being wear'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to the topic of child development or decision-making. To reach a higher band, the student needs to expand their vocabulary by learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms, and focus on using words accurately in context rather than relying on simple, sometimes incorrect, expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures with frequent errors. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('is being wear'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('taking own decision by children is like a little bit of confusing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the sentence construction often impedes the reader's understanding. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. The student should focus on mastering basic sentence patterns, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of prepositions and articles before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
