Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding children's decision-making is mentioned in both the second and final paragraphs without significant expansion. The position is clear, but the supporting points lack depth and specific examples, relying on general statements rather than well-developed arguments. To improve, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims, ensuring each paragraph contributes uniquely to the overall discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical. Transitions between ideas are frequently missing or unclear, such as the abrupt shift between the introduction and the first body paragraph. The lack of linking words makes the progression of arguments feel disjointed. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to connect sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, ensuring that the logical flow of your argument is easier to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. Phrases like 'everyday matter' and 'good at taking any decision' are used repeatedly. There are also several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'good choicer' instead of 'good decision-maker' and 'if wo strict on them' instead of 'if we are strict with them'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary and focus on using words that are appropriate for an academic context, while also paying closer attention to correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'there are numerous children make they own choices' is grammatically incorrect, and the lack of full stops makes many sentences run on, creating confusion. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on using punctuation correctly to separate distinct thoughts.
