Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today world, most of the people allows their children to make their own decision on everyday matters like food, clothes and entertainment which result in a society of public who only think about their own wishes whereas others argue that it is vital for children to make decisions about matters that affect them. With my standpoint I think it is better for children to make decision about the matter that affect them.

Some of the people viewed consider that allowing children to make their own choices on basic commodities could improve their decision-making skill and developed a society who think about their own wishes. Making decision in everyday matters might help them to give sense of freedom and excitement. Everyday decision helps children to enhance their abilities.

Others believed that children should make decision only to those matters that affect them like course or complex topic. Making decision on these critical topics are curial than basic necessities. For example, my friend Ram is currently studying computer science. The decision he made are only those that might affect him in his goals or life not the everyday matters such as food, clothes, entertainment. Furthermore, children should compose to those things that affect their future or to topics that are necessary to look.

Overall, allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters might help him in short terms but for long terms, it should be about the thing that matter to them or are really vital to think carefully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments regarding the benefits of decision-making are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the explanation of why children should make decisions on 'complex topics' is vague and does not fully explore the implications of the prompt. The essay touches upon the points required but fails to extend them with sufficient supporting evidence or logical depth. The conclusion is somewhat disconnected from the main body, as it introduces a new distinction between 'short term' and 'long term' that was not clearly established in the preceding paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Overall', the transitions between sentences are often mechanical and sometimes confusing. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between 'decision-making skill' and 'a society who think about their own wishes' is not logically explained. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear flow of ideas, making the argument feel disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive phrasing such as 'make decision' and 'everyday matters'. Some word choices are awkward or incorrect, such as 'basic commodities' to describe food and clothes, and 'curial' (likely a misspelling of 'crucial'). The student attempts to use some academic vocabulary, but the lack of accurate collocation limits the effectiveness of the communication. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations related to child development and autonomy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'In today world' (missing possessive), 'most of the people allows' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'The decision he made are' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often clunky. The frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over complex structures. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater accuracy.
