Some people believe that allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters (such as food, clothes and entertainment) is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes. Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In our society there are various kinds of people who live, and their views also vary from person to person. In this modern era it is a legal action that a person can think anything for the betterment of their children. Also the decision on what they take is for their childrens betterment.

But in our society some people belive that allowing their own choices on daily affirs is likely to result in a social indivisaulism who only think about them.I think from their point of view the have to right to say that cause if the majority of the sociaty start to thnik like them then it will not be that much good for a people living environment.Like we all watch our sorrunding that what peoples children are doing, what the poeple are doing. So if everyone thinks like them that will be worst day by day for all of us living in a society.

On the other hand there are different people who have opposite views than the previous one.they think that it is important for the childrens to take their decisions about their matters that affect them.In the same way if i think about these group of peoples point of view they are also right.Every person living in this society have the rights to take their own decision, but maybe the age matters here.Cause a early age child will always thinks from their demand of joy not directly from brain.

I agree with the first group of people who think that the result likely maybe bad for their future.cause i ahve seen many children who ruined their life when taking early age decisions and barely seen some children who are under their gudians decision may ruin their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, well-explained examples to support the claims. For instance, the mention of children 'ruining their life' is a generalization that lacks depth or evidence. While the prompt is addressed, the analysis remains at a surface level, and the connection between the arguments and the conclusion could be more robustly supported to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. Transitions between ideas are frequently mechanical or missing, such as the abrupt shift in the second paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the use of linking words is limited, which makes the progression of the argument feel somewhat disjointed. While the overall structure is present, the lack of smooth transitions and varied cohesive devices limits the coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'indivisaulism', 'affirs', 'sociaty', and 'gudians'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. The student relies on simple, everyday language, and there is little evidence of an attempt to use less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, the student needs to focus on accurate spelling and expanding their range of topic-specific vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('a early age child will always thinks'), incorrect article usage, and fragmented or run-on sentences. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often faulty and impede the clarity of the message. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The majority of the sentences contain errors, which significantly affects the readability of the text.
