Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that providing multiple options for children can result in selfishness, others argue that it is essential that children make their own decisions which have effect on them. Having considerd both perspectives, I believe that children should have the opportunity to take their own decisions becasue it will strengthen their deceision making ability in the future.

One the one hand, allowing children to make their own choices on daily issues can result in selfishness. This is mainly because when a child has many options on daily matters, it trains them in a way that they can choose whatever they want. This behaviour have detrimental effects on child as well as on society because when a child choose his favourite dishes, cloths and TV programs, promote

individualism. Thereby, they become more demanding in the future in which they only think about their own choices ignoring others priority.

On the other hand, many people believe that children should have the opportunity to take their own decisions that directly or indirectly have impact on them. Because when a child get results of his own decisions, it helps them to take effective decisions in the future. Moreover, it shapes their behaviour in a positive way because they realise which decisions have postive impact on them. For example, In the United States of America parents often priortize children decisions, enabling children to take effective decisions from the young age which often make them indpendent when they become older.

In conclusion, while allowing children to make own choices on daily matters can lead to individualism as they become demanding, I believe that parents should permit their children to take their own decisions because it will help them to become independent in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'selfishness' is a bit repetitive, and the example provided about the United States is quite general and could have been more specific to better illustrate how decision-making leads to independence. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your supporting points with more depth and nuanced reasoning rather than restating the main premise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Moreover' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'This behaviour have detrimental effects on child as well as on society because when a child choose his favourite dishes...' which lacks smooth connectivity between the cause and the effect.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'individualism,' 'demanding,' and 'independent.' However, there are several spelling errors ('considerd,' 'becasue,' 'deceision,' 'cloths,' 'priortize,' 'indpendent') and some awkward collocations. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repeating words like 'decisions' and 'choices' so frequently. Expanding your range of academic collocations would also help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('This behaviour have,' 'a child choose,' 'a child get') and missing articles ('on child,' 'from the young age'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
