Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some part of individuals have a strong belief that if children are allowed to make their own decisions on everyday matters such as food they eat, clothes they wear and entertainment programmes they watch will likely to result in a society who only think about their own wishes while other part of people believes that it is necessary for children to make their own choices about matters that affect them. I agree with the people who believes that making choices should not be in hands of children because they are immature and can take wrong decisions.

On the One hand, Children making their own decisions can impact negatively on society. They may think themselves as a person who can do anything in their life without having permissions. Their wishes are priority than others and immature decisions can lead to a destructive life of their own and also of neighborhood. For example, A child below 18 have stubborn to his parents of driving a car which ultimately lead to an accident with a old man staying in the society.

On the other Hand, Decisions made by children themselves are appropriate in day to day matters. Freedom is important in a child's life such as eating the tasty food as he wants and also wear different kind of clothing which suits their personality. A child can learn many important things such as how own decision will impact in his life and how to overcome if it had negative effect on him. He can learn to make firm choices which can be beneficial in his life.

In my opinion, Parents should allow children to take their decisions for for only limited matters and time. For eg, if a child eat his favorite food in a restaurant can lead to food poisoning and other diseases. It is the responsibility of parents to teach their children how to respect elders and should agree with them in matters where they are more experience than children.

However, I want to conclude by adding that a child should be allow to make his wish for a limited issues and for a limited time. It is right that own decisions can teach many life learning lessons but adults should also take care that it should not have any impact on the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the first body paragraph provides a specific example regarding driving, the second body paragraph is less focused, and the conclusion introduces new, slightly contradictory points about 'limited matters' that were not fully explored earlier. The position is clear, but the arguments could be more logically extended to reach a higher band. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the depth of analysis is limited by some repetitive phrasing and a lack of nuanced exploration of the societal implications mentioned in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', though some transitions feel mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow the structure of the argument. Overall, the organization is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'decisions', 'choices', and 'matters'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'stubborn to his parents' instead of 'insisted to his parents' or 'stubbornly demanded'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To improve, you should focus on using more precise synonyms and academic collocations to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'Some part of individuals have a strong belief', 'a child below 18 have stubborn', and 'a child should be allow'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and verb forms would significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
