Student answer (Band 6.0)

Individuals aim that allowing children to take independent decision on day-to- day matters for themselves such as what they eat, what they want to wear or what sort of entertainment they want to watch. It will result in a society of people who solely think about their own wishes, on the other hand there are people who believe that it is essential for children to make decisions about matter that affect them.

I believe that making decision about problems that will affect them is what essential for kids. The reason i stand with this is because many children are not that mature and if parents let their children eat whatever they want can result it health problems in future. Many Children likes to eat junk food, but they do not know what harm this will do them in the near future. Kids love to watch tv, but too much Screen time can cause severe eye issues, resulting in thick eyeglasses in young age. Considering about clothing it can turn into miss match for them, not knowing what is suitable attire for the occasion.

In contrast if children focus on decisions about matter that will affect them such as which skill will be helpful to get them in top universities or what they aim to become in future, what steps they should take to achieve that aim successfully. These are the things that is important for young kids.

In Conclusion, children should make decision for what will benefits them in future rather on the things that will ruin them for life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the negative aspects of allowing children to make everyday choices are supported with examples like junk food and screen time, the discussion on the alternative view—that children should make decisions about their future—is less developed and lacks specific examples. The essay tends to over-generalize, and the distinction between 'everyday matters' and 'future-oriented decisions' could be more clearly articulated to fully satisfy the prompt's requirements for a balanced discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For instance, the transition 'In contrast' is used, but the connection between the two main body paragraphs is slightly abrupt. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'These are the things that is important', where the antecedent is not perfectly linked. Overall, the logical flow is present, but the essay would benefit from a wider range of linking words to improve the smoothness of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'decisions', 'matters', and 'future'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'suitable attire' and 'independent decision', there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'turn into miss match' and 'ruin them for life'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items limits the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Many Children likes', 'These are the things that is important') and awkward sentence construction ('Individuals aim that allowing children to take independent decision'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the misuse of articles and prepositions is noticeable throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement before attempting more complex structures.
