Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been growing public debate surrounding the topic of allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters, such as food, clothes, and entertainment, or whether it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them. While it is true that this topic presents both benefits and drawbacks, I believe that allowing children to make their own decisions on everyday matters brings more positive consequences than negative ones.
On the one hand, opponents may highlight certain disadvantages of letting children make their own choices. They often argue that it might risk their lives by falling for fake brands and taking wrong decisions, as they still lack experience about life. Additionally, they emphasise the importance of parents making decisions about matters that affect them. For example, it ensures their safety, as adults are always behind them to advise and guide them. Mainly, this may lead to focusing on academic lessons, while parents are taking care of other essentials for them.
On the other hand, there are several strong arguments in favour of my viewpoint. One of the most significant reasons is that it improves proper money management skills from a young age. Truly, this is particularly important, as it leads to numerous positive impacts later in life. Moreover, another notable benefit is that this approach encourages them to become well-responsible and mature individuals in the future, which further demonstrates its value. Furthermore, it promotes essential life skills. For instance, increasing their creativity skills and critical thinking ability, as well as enhancing their problem-solving ability. Primarily, this may contribute to indicating social behaviors and facing real-life situations from a young age. As a result, this may lead to ensuring their future career prospects and succeeding in their overall lifestyles.
In addition, a recent report indicates that this is a reasonable development supported by logical evidence, as many children and parents have successfully adopted this strategy to strengthen their productivity and motivate them to make more accurate decisions.
In conclusion, although there are convincing arguments on both sides of this matter, the benefits of allowing children to make their own choices on everyday matters outweigh the drawbacks. Considering its highly beneficial impacts on both individuals and society, it is essential to focus on maximising these advantages while addressing any potential concerns.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on children making everyday decisions and providing a clear personal opinion. The student presents relevant arguments in both body paragraphs, suggesting that while opponents point to safety and lack of experience, advocates highlight financial literacy, maturity, and critical thinking skills. However, some ideas lack deep extension and rely slightly on generalisations. For example, the claim about 'falling for fake brands' is somewhat underdeveloped. Nonetheless, a clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The task is well-addressed overall, fulfilling the main prompt requirements satisfactorily and earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both views and the writer's opinion, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly the reliance on linking phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'Primarily' in close succession. Referencing is mostly clear, contributing to a coherent progression of ideas throughout the response, matching the criteria for a band 6.5 to 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases such as 'proper money management skills', 'critical thinking ability', and 'overall lifestyles' show an effort to use task-specific terminology. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'well-responsible' (which is slightly awkward in collocation) and 'reasonable development supported by logical evidence'. While some word choices are a bit repetitive or slightly imprecise, spelling is accurate and errors do not impede communication, placing the lexical resource comfortably at a competent level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses and conditional structures, such as 'While it is true that this topic presents both benefits and drawbacks, I believe that...' There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'taking wrong decisions' (instead of making wrong decisions), 'increasing their creativity skills', and 'well-responsible'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while errors are present, the majority of sentences remain clear and comprehensible, ensuring that communication is rarely impeded.
