Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on children making everyday decisions and providing a personal opinion, which aligns with the requirements of Band 6. The position is clear, although the ideas are sometimes under-developed and rely on general statements rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the discussion on self-centeredness mentions that children might 'not learn the consider to need and desire,' but this point is expressed somewhat unclearly and lacks fully extended supporting examples. While the prompt asks to discuss both views and give an opinion, the inclusion of a 'remedies' paragraph slightly disrupts the expected structure of a standard discussion essay. However, the core requirements of the task are met satisfactorily, corresponding to a Band 6 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a discernible paragraph structure, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Moving towards remedies' and 'Following the analyzation of the above points' are unnatural and reveal an over-reliance on rigid templates. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'its became worth seeing' and 'it may a lack of self-discipline.' Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, but the logical progression between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical fragmentation and awkward phrasing, placing this aspect of the writing firmly at Band 5.5 to 6.0. A score of 5.5 is appropriate due to the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'self-centeredness,' 'independence,' and 'consequences.' However, there are numerous word choice and spelling errors that detract from the overall quality, including 'altogther,' 'essenial,' 'crystle clear,' and 'resposibilities.' Phrases like 'daily life things' and 'decision of choice' demonstrate unnatural collocations and a lack of lexical precision. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning, the frequency of spelling mistakes and awkward phrasing prevents the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.0 the most accurate reflection of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally impede understanding. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('its became worth seeing'), missing auxiliary verbs ('it may a lack of'), and faulty clause structures ('When children are constantly given the power of choice... then they might not learn'). Punctuation is also problematic, with lowercase letters starting sentences after periods and comma splices. Because the attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty and errors are persistent throughout the text, the performance aligns with Band 5.0.
