Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people argue that if children make their own choices on their everyday matters for instance food, clothes, and intertainment is likely to result in a society of individuals who only think about their own wishes but on the other hand few believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

There are several reasons some people believe that children should not make their own decision, because children are not mature enough and have less expoure of life. They do not think about the problems they will face if they take any wrong decision. Like if we talk about the food they even do not know about what is healthy and unhealthy. they only focuse on taste not the quality.

Moreover, If we talk about clothes they even don't know the quality of the clothes and as well as the real prices. they only try it and if it's look cool they want this.no matter how expensive it is and what quality it has.

In addition to it some people argue that children have right to make their own choice on entertainment but some believe it's wrong because they argue it may result produces and individuals who only think about their own wishes.

Honestly I believe that if there are different points like on some time we have to give liberty to our children like slecting their subjects but we have to guid them and on the second point we should give liberty to our children to go outdoor activities; due to this children become more attantive and engoy their studies as well as become independent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the views on children making everyday choices and whether it creates self-centred individuals, while also offering a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs concerning food and clothes. The position is stated, but the arguments are not fully extended. For instance, the discussion on food relies on basic assertions that children focus on taste rather than nutrition without exploring deeper societal implications. Similarly, the conclusion attempts to cover multiple points like subjects and outdoor activities rather than deeply synthesising the core prompts. This performance aligns with Band 5.5, as it addresses the task but lacks sufficient depth and full development in its supporting ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organisation, but the progression is frequently disrupted by poor paragraphing and mechanical transitions. The response opens with a massive single-sentence introduction and run-on structure. Body paragraphs are introduced repetitively using phrases such as 'Moreover, If we talk about' and 'In addition to it'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are used rather clumsily. While there is a discernible structure moving from opposing views to a personal conclusion, the lack of smooth links and effective paragraph breaks results in a choppy reading experience. This fits the Band 5.0 descriptors well, showing some organisation and basic cohesive devices, but lacking clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited range of vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors. Examples include 'intertainment' instead of entertainment, 'expoure' for exposure, 'focuse' for focus, 'slecting' for selecting, and 'attantive' for attentive. Furthermore, there is considerable repetition of phrases like 'everyday matters', 'make their own choice', and 'children have right to make their own choice'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in spelling and collocation cause some difficulty for the reader. This performance sits firmly at Band 5.0 due to the restricted range and frequent errors in basic and attempted vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('children have right', 'individuals who only thinks'), missing articles ('have less expoure of life'), and punctuation flaws like run-on sentences and missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences ('they only focuse', 'no matter how'). Complex structures are often faulty and awkward, notably the long, convoluted introductory sentence and the rambling final sentence. Although the general meaning can usually be understood, the density of errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5.0 criteria for grammar.
