Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Making own decisions is important. Some argues that letting children to make decisons regarding daily routine stuffs including food, outwear and fun activities is likely to make them selfish and think about their own needs only. Whille, others believe that it's crucial for children to make decisions only regarding the things that are going to influence them. The essay is going to discuss both the views before giving own personal opinion.

Children who have choice to take descisions on everday basis are going to be more confident and self aware of their own needs. Similarly, allowing children to take descisions regarding daily matter is going to in-built strong decisive skills in them. Furthermore, their own personal choices consideration is going to make them feel more happy and relaxed, rather than having the feel of being imposed on daily basis. For example, i feel more confident in wearing clothes of my own choice resulting in great output of all daily tasks performance.

However, other argues that children should take crucial decsions that influence them is going to put them under more pressure resulting in indecisive ability. Children should always be lead by some adult in order to take good decision regarding crucial matter rather than being the sole decison maker. For example, Alina my cousin was never allowed to make decsions regarding her choices, but when it comes to her marriage proposal, she was asked to made a decision which she failed to do so because of pressure and her indecisive ability of making confident decisions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on children making decisions and providing a personal opinion in the introduction and body paragraphs. The position is clear throughout, and ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as the personal example regarding clothing choices and the cousin Alina's marriage proposal example. However, some arguments lack full extension and the discussion tends to over-generalise slightly in places, which aligns the response with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the essay. The student uses standard cohesive devices to connect ideas, such as 'Similarly', 'Furthermore', and 'However'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion logically. However, referencing is occasionally repetitive or slightly clunky, keeping the score at a solid 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'decisive skills', 'indecisive ability', and 'marriage proposal'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'outwear' instead of 'outerwear', 'stuffs' instead of 'stuff' or 'matters', and frequent misspellings of 'decisions' as 'decisons' or 'decsions'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'letting children to make decisons' (superfluous 'to'), 'Some argues' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'Whille, others believe' (punctuation and spelling error). While these errors occur regularly, they rarely impede overall communication, supporting a Band 6.0 rating.
