Other people believe that it is important for children to make decisions about matters that affect them.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Making own decisions is important. Some argues that letting children to make decisons regarding daily routine stuffs including food, outwear and fun activities is likely to make them selfish and think about their own needs only. Whille, others believe that it's crucial for children to make decisions only regarding the things that are going to influence them. The essay is going to discuss both the views before giving own personal opinion.

Children who have choice to take descisions on everday basis are going to be more confident and self aware of their own needs. Similarly, allowing children to take descisions regarding daily matter is going to in-built strong decisive skills in them. Furthermore, their own personal choices consideration is going to make them feel more happy and relaxed, rather than having the feel of being imposed on daily basis. For example, i feel more confident in wearing clothes of my own choice resulting in great output of all daily tasks performance.

However, other argues that children should take crucial decsions that influence them is going to put them under more pressure resulting in indecisive ability. Children should always be lead by some adult in order to take good decision regarding crucial matter rather than being the sole decison maker. For example, Alina my cousin was never allowed to make decsions regarding her choices, but when it comes to her marriage proposal, she was asked to made a decision which she failed to do so because of pressure and her indecisive ability of making confident decisions.

In conclusion, children should take decisions regarding important matter only, i believe making decisions on daily basis activities is important in building condident and childs' decisive ability.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views presented in the prompt and provides a personal opinion, satisfying the core requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the writer states that children making everyday choices will be 'more confident and self aware', but this point is not fully extended or supported with deep elaboration beyond a brief personal example ('i feel more confident in wearing clothes of my own choice'). The distinction between daily choices and crucial decisions is somewhat muddled in the third paragraph, where the phrasing 'other argues that children should take crucial decsions that influence them is going to put them under more pressure' misinterprets the opposing viewpoint. While the position is generally clear throughout, the support for the arguments remains basic and could benefit from greater depth and precision to reach a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a logical overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which demonstrates a basic structure. Paragraphing is utilized, though some paragraphs lack internal cohesion and smooth progression. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'In conclusion', but their use is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, as seen with 'Whille, others believe' where punctuation and spelling are faulty. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift into a personal anecdote ('Alina my cousin') without sufficient transitional framing. While the progression of ideas is discernible, the lapses in cohesion and mechanical transitions prevent the response from achieving a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but it features noticeable limitations and frequent errors in word choice and spelling. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'outwear' instead of 'outerwear', 'everday basis' instead of 'everyday basis', and 'indecisive ability' where the intended meaning is an inability to make decisions. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'decisive skills', 'imposed', and 'proposal', but these are often marred by spelling mistakes ('decisons', 'condident') or awkward collocations. While the meaning is generally communicated, the persistent lexical and spelling errors restrict the score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures such as relative clauses and conditional-like phrasing ('if' implied through context). However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'Some argues' instead of 'Some argue', 'letting children to make' instead of 'letting children make', and 'childs' decisive ability' instead of 'children's decision-making ability'. Punctuation is also problematic, notably missing commas after introductory transitional phrases and incorrect capitalization. These errors occur frequently across the text and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
