Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals opine that children should be free to make their own decisions in everyday matters as this will encourage them to become selfish. Others believe that children should only make choices about matters that affect them. This essay will discuss both approaches and I believe that parents should make decisions regarding daily needs of children.

The major reason is that those who get independent regarding their choices may start prioritizing themself and do not take care of others opinion. Those who make choices regarding what to eat, wear and watch this may also lead to develop negtive relations with family members and friends. They can't understand the sense of cooperation also. For instance, children who make choices by their own usually they refuse to listen instructions from teachers at school.

On the other side, parents should allow children just to make decisions that affect them because decision making will help to develop sense of responsibility, confidence and problem solving skills among them. Moreover, children are not mature enough that they can understand what is right for them so correct parenting should be there so they can make child future bright and can learn valuable lessons. For instance, children should allow to dress up by their own so they can develop their personality.

To sum up, I believe that parents should be friendly with their child so they can freely express their views with parents. Moreover, both the perspective had solid view points but children should be allowed to make their own decisions but it should be under boundries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that allowing independent choices creates selfish individuals versus ensuring children make decisions about matters affecting them—and includes the writer's own opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the first body paragraph argues that independent choices lead to selfishness and bad relations, but the reasoning is underdeveloped and relies on general assertions without deep elaboration. The conclusion also introduces a slight contradiction by stating that children should be allowed to make decisions under boundaries, which shifts the stated position slightly. Despite these limitations, the prompt's requirements are covered adequately, earning a solid Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion appropriately. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'The major reason is that', 'On the other side', and 'To sum up'. However, referencing and cohesion can be mechanical or slightly faulty at times, as seen in phrases like 'Those who get independent regarding their choices' and 'Those who make choices regarding what to eat, wear and watch this may also lead to develop negtive relations'. Logical progression is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions between sentences, though the general flow remains understandable. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'prioritizing themself', 'cooperation', 'responsibility', and 'personality'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'get independent' instead of 'become independent', 'noperative' or 'negtive' (spelling error), and 'bright future' instead of a more academic collocation. Additionally, repetition of words like 'choices' and 'decisions' limits lexical flexibility. Communication is not impeded, but the presence of these errors and limitations places the vocabulary firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting conditional and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'Some individuals opine that children should be free...'). However, grammatical errors and awkward phrasing occur frequently throughout the response. Examples include 'prioritizing themself' (plural/singular mismatch and pronoun form), 'children who make choices by their own usually they refuse' (redundant subject pronoun), 'children should allow to dress up' (passive voice error), and 'both the perspective had solid view points' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not severely impede overall comprehension, they prevent the essay from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.0 the most accurate description for this criterion.
